Mount Joy Borough has enforced a Property Maintenance Code since 1996. The current property maintenance code was adopted by Borough Council with Ordinance 4-15 on April 6th, 2015, to enact and enforce the 2009 International Property Maintenance Code as amended and is identified as Chapter 195 of the Mount Joy Borough Code.
The Property Maintenance Code has been adopted by Council to ensure the public health, safety, and welfare of the Borough and its residents. All properties within Borough limits are subject to the requirements of the Code including residential and commercial properties. The Code includes provisions for exterior appearance and upkeep, interior maintenance, sanitation, life safety, and habitability of all properties. The Code provides for the minimum requirements for all land, structures, equipment, and other facilities or features of properties in the Borough. It is the responsibility of owners and occupants of property within the Borough to maintain the property they own or occupy within the requirements of the Code.
The Mount Joy Borough Codes Department has been appointed to administer and enforce the Property Maintenance Code and any concerns about a property may be directed to them for investigation and enforcement.
If you would like to file a complaint or concern about a particular property, please submit a complaint form to the Borough Codes Department.
