Leaf Collection

Leaf Collection will start Monday, November 4, 2024, and run through Friday, December 13, 2024, in the Borough. The following guidelines are to be followed for those participating in the pickup.

  • Leaves must be raked into piles at the edge of the street or alley in plain view and far enough away from parked vehicles. The Public Works Department is not permitted to go onto anyone’s property to collect leaves.
  • Remove large sticks, branches, metal, lumber, rocks and/or plastic objects from leaf pile. Such items may cause damage to the equipment or employees and cause a delay in collection.
  • If leaves piled by the curb have not been picked up within one week, please call the Borough Office at (717) 653-2300 and leave your name and address as a reminder.
  • Please do NOT bag leaves.

Grass Clippings and Leaves

Mount Joy Borough residents may purchase grass tags for $2.00 each to dispose of their grass clippings.  The Borough strongly encourage the residents to recycle by mulching the grass rather than bag it.  Grass clippings should not be blown or swept into the streets as they wash into the storm inlets.

Leaves are collected every fall starting in November into December, depending on the amount of leaves yet to fall.  Residents are encouraged to rake their leaves and put them at their curbside in the street and the Public Works Department will come around to every street once a week to collect.  Leaves are collected with a leaf collector.  The Borough encourages residents not to include sticks, branches, etc., in with their pile as it could damage the machine.  If you wish to bag your leaves before our collections begin or after it ends, you may do so by purchasing a Kraft bag. Please note that these bags will only be collected during the woody waste schedule which is listed above.
